So you have finally booked your flight to Cozumel, good job! Now it’s time to find out how to get from Cozumel airport to the center, or to your hotel/resort. Well in this post I’m going share the best ways depending on your budget and preference.
There are three ways to get from Cozumel airport to your accommodation:
- Take a shuttle bus
- Exit the airport and take a taxi
- Rent a car
But it’s not quite that easy… so I’m going to break it down for you.
Option 1 – Take a shuttle bus
This is the easiest option, especially if you don’t want to go wandering around in the heat with all of your luggage! Once you have got your luggage, look for the sign that says Cozumel Shuttle. The cost is just over $5 per person and it won’t leave until there are enough passengers on board. Tell the driver where you want to go and they will drop you right at your door.
Although it will cost a little more, so if you want to save a few $$ on transport to spend on extra Margaritas you might want to choose option 2.
Option 2 – Take a taxi
You might think getting a taxi from Cozumel airport is easy right? Wrong. Taxi’s actually aren’t allowed to pick up at the airport, they can only drop off. However, there is a way around this though if you are … and have a craving for fish tacos.
Most vacationers and locals in the know grab their luggage from the airport and head right out of the airport and cross over the road for a cold beer and the best fish tacos on the island at Diego’s. Now strictly speaking you need to be aware that this is breaking the rules, but if you are discreet, and really do want some great tacos you won’t have a problem.
Once you have eaten you can either flag a taxi down or ask the staff at Diago’s to call you one. The cost should be around $40 pesos to get to the downtown area. If you are going to one of the resorts further south it will be more. Always ask the price to your destination before accepting the ride.
Option 3 – Rent a car
If you know that you want to rent a car while you are here on the Island then we recommend renting with Isis rentals. They are as trustworthy as they come. Sadly they don’t have a stand in the airport, but if you book with them they will either be able to collect you from the airport, or you can take an airport shuttle directly to them. From there you can do the paperwork and get your car. If maybe a little bit more hassle than using one of the largest companies in the airport, but it really is worth it.
